Couldn't agree more. I for example, haven't bought a snow tire for over 40 years. After retiring to western Kentucky in '92 - and seldom traveling during the winter - it soon became clear that a year 'round rain tire was most appropriate. Yes there is the occasional cold snap where the softer rubber compound would be good. But there aren't enough of them to justify a thousand dollar set of tires dryrotting in the garage the other 9 months of the year. So I put that money into the best set of all-season rated rain tires that I can get. I generally lean toward Michelin. Their HydroEdge was great, as is the Pilot Sport A/S. My Porsche is currently on a set of Michelin Lattitude Tour HP. Even from a dead stop, those tires enabled me to tow a 4 ton load uphill on damp grass.
